Greek fried cheese is one of my very favorite foods. I first learned about this delicious snack from my mother when I was a child. She would make it for the family every day. After a few months, I became more serious about trying it myself. It is such a great way to use the healthy foods in your diet and have something delicious that everyone can enjoy.

Ingredients Required

When preparing the greek fried cheese recipe at home, you need to start with breading the meat or sandwich in a skillet. You will need vegetable oil, butter, milk, and sour cream to complete the breading. The milk gives the bread a crusty texture that cuts through the fat in the meat. As you cook the mixture, be sure to watch the liquid level in the skillet. Too much liquid and the bread may become soft.

When your piece of meat is ready, it should be halfway cooked but not completely set. To test if the cheese is fully cooked, remove it from the skillet and place it on a wire rack to allow it to cool. Carefully remove it from the wire rack and place it on a baking sheet, setting the baking sheet to the bottom. If the bread seems to have lost its shape, add another half cup of milk and continue to bake it at medium heat. Once it is brown and crisp, remove it from the baking sheet and place it on the cooling rack to finish cooking.

To assemble the greek fried cheese appetizer, first, make sure that the breading is fully mixed in with the warm liquid so it does not stick. Then, use a small frying pan or skillet to cook the mixture evenly. It is advisable to use a food processor or blender to mix all the ingredients. Once this is done, add the chopped saganaki mushrooms to the mix and gently fry in butter until the mushrooms are softened. Add a little milk and spread some cheese over the top. Remove the crisp from the skillet and serve with crackers or breadsticks.

A greek fried cheese appetizer recipe is easy to make and a great way to spend a few minutes while you are waiting for dinner. The key to creating a good version of the classic dish is using fresh, high-quality cheese. Many chefs agree that Gouda, Cheddar, or Swiss make the best flavors since they are more tart and have less fat. The secret to preparing saganaki is to blend different kinds of cheese in smaller amounts to create the desired texture and flavor. These cheeses can also be prepared in different ways, such as: using a food processor; grating cheese using a grater; and using a wooden spoon or fork to mix the cheese.

If using a food processor, combine softened cream cheese, gourmet bread crumbs, mayonnaise, and yogurt in a bowl and blend thoroughly until smooth. Add about two tablespoons of this mixture to about one to two cups of warm water and mix thoroughly until the ingredients are completely blended. Then transfer this mixture into a clean non-stick skillet and heat on medium heat. When the cheese begins to melt, it will form a semi-hard crust on the bottom of the skillet. Add a little bit of oil to help the cheese stick to the pan, but not enough to make the breadcrumbs look oily.

As for the actual recipe, all that is required is to cook the cheese and then allow it to cool. Next, use a wooden spoon or spatula to remove the cheese from its crust and then add a little bit of lemon juice to help the cheese stay moist. Splash at least two tablespoons of this mixture onto the dough and then fold the whole thing over so that the lemon wedge is visible on top. Brush a light layer of flour over the top and then fold the sandwich in half. Brush the outside of the sandwich with yet another layer of flour and then pop in the margarine or butter.

As you can see, preparing this popular Mediterranean snack is very easy. The only tools needed to complete this meal are some oil, a paddle to stir the ingredients, and a cookie cutter to shape the layers. This quick and easy method makes this simple recipe one that the whole family can enjoy. The most important thing is simply to follow a few steps and then before you know it, you and your guests will have the most delicious and sumptuous Greek food they have ever tasted.
